The story found on the back label is true and is one of many examples of the stories that James loved to tell. I suppose if James had lived in California instead of New Hampshire he would have many similar stories about wine, but this one about a six pack of beer and very funny indeed.
Enjoy!
Vineyards The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard is located on the clay soils in the eastern end of Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara County. Stolpman Vineyard also shared clay soils and is located in heart of Santa Ynez Valley tucked inside along Ballard Canyon. The depth and complexity of this wine is a direct reflection of the fruit grown from these two vineyards.
Cellar Practices and Winemaking
The fruit of this wine was harvested in a very ripe state, at the peak of flavor perfection. Fermentation took place in small vats, hand pressed and then carefully aged in French oak barrels. No additions are added to the must and only a minimal of SO2 is added to ensure the fruit flavors will not spoil
Winemaker's Comments
The Merlot was aged in 100% new French Oak for 12 months then blended with the Cabernet and allowed to finish off barrel aging together for a total of 22 months. Only one barrel of this exceptional Bordeaux style wine was produced. You will find plenty of flavor, plum, cassis and black fruits. This wine is ready to drink now as it is or if you have the patience you will be rewarded with an even better wine 5-10 years from now.
